Safe positioning

A small panel can still become a serious hazard.

Wind, height, falling objects, cable damage, fire spread and weather exposure matter as much as sunlight.

Before choosing a position

  • Use only mounting equipment intended for the exact panel and location
  • Check the supporting structure and the manufacturer’s wind limits
  • Keep panels and cables away from escape routes, doors and trip areas
  • Never allow a panel or fixing to fall onto people, vehicles or neighbouring property
  • Follow the stated orientation, clearances and ventilation requirements
  • Keep connectors and equipment within their stated weather-resistance limits

Balconies, walls and height

The government response identifies falling-object risk for elevated balcony and façade installations. Written permission and a product instruction are not structural calculations. If the consequence of failure is serious, obtain competent advice.

Cables

Use the supplied route and protection method. Do not crush cables in windows or doors, leave connectors in water, create trip hazards, modify plugs or use an extension lead unless the final product instructions expressly allow it.

Fire and higher-risk buildings

The final product instructions may restrict installation on particular buildings or external surfaces because of fire spread. Flats, high-rise buildings, cladding systems and escape routes need especially careful checks with the responsible person or building manager.

Stop using the kit if

  • A cable, connector, plug, socket or panel is damaged
  • A plug or socket becomes unusually hot, discoloured or smells burnt
  • The mounting loosens, bends or moves in wind
  • Water enters equipment not intended to be wet
  • The inverter repeatedly reports a fault
  • A safety alert or recall covers the exact model
