Who is the DNO?
Your DNO owns and operates the local electricity network. It is different from your electricity supplier. The ENA postcode tool identifies the correct network company.
Why notification exists
Small generators operate in parallel with the network. The network company needs accurate equipment and location details so it knows what is connected.
What to keep ready
- Supply address and postcode
- Electricity meter point number if requested
- Exact kit and inverter model
- Serial numbers and rated AC output
- ENA G98 register reference
- Commissioning or connection date
- Declaration and installation details required by the final process
Do not guess the process
Under the existing ordinary G98 route, fully type-tested microgeneration is normally notified after commissioning. The government says G98 will be amended for plug-in solar and associated registration/notification arrangements. Follow the new plug-in process once published rather than copying an old rooftop-solar form.
If you move the kit
Ask both the manufacturer and relevant DNOs what must be updated. A portable-looking product is still generation connected to a particular electricity supply.
