Seven checks
- Exact identity: record manufacturer, kit name, model number and every generating component.
- Whole-kit declaration: obtain the supplier’s declaration that the complete product meets the final plug-in-solar specification.
- ENA record: find the exact generating unit on the G98 Type Test Register; similar names are not enough.
- Output: confirm rated AC output is no more than 800W. Do not confuse panel DC wattage with inverter AC output.
- Instructions: read connection, circuit, cable, mounting, weather, fire and notification instructions before purchase.
- UK support: identify the legal manufacturer/importer, warranty provider, returns address and recall contact.
- Complete contents: check what is included and whether the mounting method is approved for your proposed location.
Warning signs
- The seller will not provide an exact model number
- Only a marketplace screenshot or generic certificate is offered
- The listing says “EU compliant” but gives no Great Britain plug-in declaration
- The cable, plug or microinverter has been substituted
- Instructions encourage extension leads, adapters or improvised cable routes
- The listing mixes a storage battery into the same claimed qualifying device
After purchase
Save the invoice, declaration, manual, serial numbers, ENA register record and photographs of the installed position. Check the official product-safety alerts database periodically.
